Meet the contestants

Lyu Haoran

This skilled pastry chef has over nine years of experience making desserts and chocolates. He represented China in the 2017 WorldSkills Competition and earned 5th place and a Medal of Excellence. After, Liu coached China’s national team, successfully training gold and silver medalists in confectionery and patisserie. In 2023, the chef claimed victory at Italy's The World Trophy of Professional Tiramisù. Renowned for infusing local ingredients into chocolate, he seeks to innovate always drawing inspiration from his culture to create unique flavours.

 

Jeffrey Lao

This chef is a pastry lecturer at the Macao University of Tourism, specialising in French pastry and competition coaching. With experience in prestigious world-class hotels like the Four Seasons and Mandarin Oriental, Jeffrey has guided students through major events like WorldSkills. He also holds awards from the Shanghai Disciples d’Auguste Escoffier and the Hong Kong International Culinary Classic. As a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu and Ferrandi, he has experience and passion for refined, flavour-driven pastries, which he shares with his students to inspire them in their own culinary journeys.

Lili Wang

Lili Wang, a devoted pastry chef, has spent six years working on her skills in sugar art and pioneering new chocolate techniques. Known for her space- and animation-inspired creations, Lili uses universe-themed shapes to bring her designs to life. Her distinctive style combines unexpected ingredients, like raw vegetables and spices, for surprising flavour profiles. Throughout her career, she's won a silver medal in the National WorldSkills Competition and the Best Chocolate Candy Award at the Cocoberry World Chocolate Masters China Regional Selection. The chef is dedicated to using ingredients to push the limits of chocolate artistry.

Qi Ming Ma

Beijing-based dessert chef Qi Ming Ma is passionate about chocolate as a form of art. With experience at The Peninsula Beijing and at the Grand Hyatt Oriental, he has perfected his skills by infusing his creations with a touch of elegance and innovation. Known for his patience, creativity, and commitment, Qi Ming loves reinventing chocolate to captivate and engage his audience. His aim is to make the baking industry more accessible and to inspire others to appreciate the unique allure of chocolate.

Mankai Cai

As a dedicated chocolatier and sugar artist, the chef brings six years of experience in the baking industry to the competition. Originally trained in Chinese cuisine, he unexpectedly found a passion for chocolate artistry because of its boundless creativity and versatility. Known for his cheerful and open-minded outlook, Mankai embraces chocolate as a canvas for cultural expression and inventive designs. With multiple recognitions under his arm, including winning the 2023 National Baking Professional Skills Competition, he seeks to inspire others with his intricate and meaningful creations.

Kang Geng

Since 2016, chocolatier Kang Geng has turned his childhood love for sweets into a flourishing profession. What started as an apprenticeship grew into a career in chocolate product specialisation. Kang is recognised for his creativity and dedication and believes chocolate represents more than just a sweet, but a rich cultural experience. His expertise drives his innovative approach, and he looks forward to competing to demonstrate his craftsmanship while discovering new dimensions of chocolate artistry.

Shasha Shen

Shasha Shen is a chef who honed her chocolate and pastry skills in France and gained valuable experience working in respected chocolate shops. Her passion for the craft led her to open her own chocolate shop in 2020. Though now moved on to new ventures, the experience fuelled her vision for a new chocolate studio. Competing in WCM is part of her journey to deepen her expertise and elevate her artistry. With optimism that parallels the contest's theme, Shasha infuses joy into her creations and aspires to share them with the world.

Meet the jury

Guoxiong Li

Jury president

This National Selection's Jury President is a revered pastry master and technical expert. He leads China's technical guidance group for the WorldSkills Sugar Art/Pastry competitions, having guided teams to multiple gold and silver medals. He's been honoured with awards like the China Baking Industry Outstanding Contribution Award and serves as Executive Chairman of the Guangdong Baking Experts Committee. The chef is also an author who has published over 10 books on baking and pastry techniques.

 

Lluc Crusellas

 

You might know him as the World Chocolate Master of 2022. But Lluc is also known for being the celebrated pastry chef from Santa Eulalia de Riuprimer, trained at Hofmann and Espaisucre before joining La Pastisseria Barcelona. With a passion for bringing to life a new generation of chocolate, Lluc launched his own brand, EUKARYA CHOCOLATE, in December 2023. His commitment to creativity, precision, and dedication defines his approach to chocolate artistry and mentorship in the culinary world.

 

Jacky Lung

 

Jacky Lung is the current Pastry Sous Chef at The Londoner Macao, where he blends his culinary experience with a strong sense of responsibility towards the craft. Known to his peers for his problem-solving abilities and bold creations, Jacky approaches each pastry challenge with precision and imagination. His passion has previously earned him the title of World Finalist of Greater China of WCM, which propelled his career to new heights. Today, he remains committed to achieving the extraordinary.

 

Shao Lin

With over 4 decades in the bakery and pastry industry, Shao Lin is the Chief Technology Officer at Huizhou Jiatian Food Co., Ltd. He's also been an executive pastry chef at world-class hotels like Mandarin Oriental and Shangri-La and jury of international competitions, such as the Lyon Kings of Pastry in France. Shao sees World Chocolate Masters as a vital space for chefs to showcase leadership in chocolate artistry and innovation on a global stage.
